Friends of the Milton Public Library Meetings Minutes

Minutes for meeting on February 13, 2007

Members present:
Liz Buchanan, Jeff Erickson, Eileen Walsh, Elaine Gelinas.

Treasurer’s Report: The Treasurer reported that our fiscal year is now officially January 1 - December 31. We have received over $14,000 in donations from the membership drive maililng in December. We also received a generous $10,000 donation from the Copeland Foundation. Also, we have a $425.00 credit with our accountant that will be used later in the year.

New Business

Programming Update: The Writers Workshops have been a success and an innovative way to get Friends together in a new activity. The trip to the Peaboy Essex Museum is scheduled for Sunday, March 11 at 12:30 p.m. Anyone interested in attending may contact Connie Spiros.

The Musuem Pass program is a popular service offered by the Friends and the Secretary will meet with Library Administration to track usage so we may plan. New suggestions for passes were the new Institute of Contemporary Art and the Fuller Musueum in Brockton.

Annual Meeting - A date and theme for the annual meeting is still TBD but the location will be the Fuller Village.

Gala Update: The 4th annual MIlton Public Library Literary Gala will be Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at 6:00 pm at a new location, Granite Links in Quincy. The speaker will be Journalist Juan Williams of National Public Radio. Volunteer session will be Feb. 26 at 11:00 am and Feb. 27 at 7:30 pm. Please contact Connie Spiros if you're interested.

Foundation Meeting: The officers of the FMPL will be meeting with the Foundation members regarding several topics including conducting a town-wide survey on library usage. Do citizens use the library? Do they plan on using the new library? The Library will operate more as a community center with a movement to include all members of the Milton community.

Next meeting scheduled for Tuesday, March 13, 2007 at 7:00 pm at the Library in the lower level conference room.
