Library Hosts New Programs for Teens

by Anna Litten, Young Adults Librarian, Milton Public Library

Picture teens in their natural habitat; the mall, or in front of your television, but how about the library?

This fall, the Milton Public Library will host a series of programs for teens. As long as a program is fun, interesting and for teens, it can be one of our Afterschool Specials! On Tuesday, November 8th, teens can join Knit Your Way to the Holidays, a knitting workshop and circle. On Thursday, November 17th, they can be part of a visual and interactive presentation From Krazy Kat to Jimmy Corrigan, a look at the history and art of comics. And on Thursday, December 1, they can participate in the first meeting of the new Teen Readers Club, at which we’ll be discussing our inaugural book, The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer. All of the Afterschool Specials will begin at 3pm.

We’re also working with other members of the community to help teens use library resources more effectively. On Thursday, November 3rd, 7:30 pm, the Friends of the Library will sponsor a presentation and discussion for the parents of middle school readers, Engaging Teens in Reading, led by Christine Chabonneau, an English teacher at Pierce Middle School. Participants will discuss ways to get preteens and teens more involved in books and reading.

We’re always looking to build new relationships with readers and the community. Our new programming for teens might be the start of a beautiful relationship! For more information on all of these programs, including times, call the library at 617-698-5757, or check out the Events Calendar at the Library website, www.miltonlibrary.org.
