Friends in the NewsLibrary Offers Writing Workshop SeriesThe Friends of the Milton Public Library will sponsor a series of individual writing workshops. The location of each workshop will be announced a few weeks prior to the workshop's scheduled date. A donation of $5.00 for seniors or $10 for non-seniors for each workshop is requested. January 20th, 3-5pm, Location to be announced Creating Memorable CharactersWhere do these people come from? This workshop will step through the process of coming up with memorable characters: planning them out, coming up with names, finding those telling details, writing the first turn on the stage, showing and hiding, creating a narrative voice, writing dialogue, and layering in the back story. Be prepared to write! Presented by Hallie Ephron; Author of Writing and Selling Your Mystery Novel: How to Knock ‘Em Dead With Style (Writers Digest Books, September, 2005), the first ever writing book to be nominated for the prestigious Edgar Award. She is also the crime fiction book reviewer for the Boston Globe, and co-author of five mystery novels by G. H. Ephron, featuring Dr. Peter Zak and set in Cambridge, MA. The series blends great traditional mystery storytelling with healthy doses of psychology and forensics. Finding Your Writing VoiceEvery writer has an individual style or “voice.” How can you discern your authentic writing voice and make it more publication worthy? Presented by Suzette Standring; Writer, Milton Times and Patriot Ledger and www.readsuzette.com. Suzette wrote Tips from Top Columnists: How They Write An Award Winning Column, which will be published by Marion Street Press. She interviewed a number of award winning writers, and will share how they have approached developing a unique writing voice. Saturday, April 14, 2007; 3-5p.m. in the Library conference room.
